Last Saturday, we had a huge party for Ava’s birthday. She is obsessed with the Disney princesses – so that was the theme she chose for the party. She was so excited to deliver all the invites to her friends in the neighborhood, she could barely stand it. This year was a big change from last year because she really understood she was having a party. Pure joy poured out of her every time she thought about her “party” in the two weeks leading up to it! We must have had 35 – 40 people here – throughout the day we probably had 17 kids in and out. I couldn’t believe everyone I invited, except for one – showed up!! It meant a lot to us to see everyone come to share her birthday – she is a really special little girl. She had a Princess cookie cake, cupcakes and ice cream - not to mention tons of Princess Gifts! Her favorites were the dress up clothes (she has been wearing her Snow White shoes and gown ever since!!) and the set of Princess golf clubs. We have started a tradition each year by having Chad’s family over to BBQ the night of the party, so after the cake and ice cream were over, we cooked hamburgers, corn and hot dogs on the grill. We kept the party going until 11 that night. Ava was so overexcited, she stayed up too, even though I made many attempts to put her to bed much earlier! She had a great day!! I can’t believe how fast time flies – she’s not a baby anymore – but she will always be my baby . I just love her precious spirit. Words cannot express how lucky I feel to be her mom.
Her actual birthday is Friday, June 27, but we are headed to Destin with Chad’s family for a week so we had to have the party earlier. I can’t wait to celebrate with her on her real birthday. I am going to hold on to 2 as long as I can!
The song attached to this slide show is one of Ava's favorites - it's from a Curious George movie.
