Trick or Treat!
This year Halloween was absolutely incredible!! It is by far one of our favorite holidays because our neighborhood makes a big deal out of it. We have this cool thing our neighbors do called “You’ve been booed!” A mystery person will tape a paper ghost to your door and leave a whole bag of treats!! You have to make copies of the ghost, buy bag fulls of treats and “boo” somebody else. This process starts about the middle of October. We carve our pumpkin about a week before and it is also a big deal. Ava gets to pick the design and she helps her daddy dig out the guts and seeds. This year we did a ghost, although I don’t have a great pic of it. Chad loves this process too – he uses sharpies, and all kinds of drill attachments on his drill to make it look just right. His most favorite part it roasting the seeds. He would eat them every day if we could have fresh ones that often.
Every year we now have a tradition of all of our families coming over our house to eat dinner before trick or treating. We had three big pots of chili, corn muffins and Melissa’s pumpkin bars. After we eat, we assemble all the kids and make our way outside to the HAYRIDE! Every year, our neighborhood has designated cars that pull trailers full of hay and we have a parade all around the neighborhood. All the people who don’t go on the hayride stand at the end of their driveways and take pictures and cheer for all the ghosts, goblins and princesses on the hayrides. As soon as the hayride ends, we are off to trick or treating. Ava was Cinderalla this year and I curled her hair with a curling iron (although even with hairspray the waves didn’t hold) and put special sparkly make up on her. She asked me if I could make her hair blonde like Cinderella’s just for the night. My little Cinderella princess walked the entire loop of our neighborhood, she would not get in the golf cart even once. That loop is at least a mile. As soon as the candy was deposited in her pail, she would shout “We have to go to the next one!!!” Towards the end, she did have her “T-Shane”, Belinda’s husband, carry her to a couple houses. Our Halloween night was probably in the low 40s so it was freezing, but soooo much fun. We sorted out and ate the candy and Melissa and I bathed our kids and got them ready for bed! Chad built the first fire of the season out back in our fire pit and then it was time to relax!!! Ava is still talking about how much fun Halloween was. I just love her excitement. I can’t wait to see how excited she will be at Christmas this year!!
